Level 0: You don’t account for operational or value chain emissions. In order to develop a decarbonization strategy, it is important to measure your emissions inside your operations and across your value chain. We recommend you go over Module 1 “An introduction to Climate Change and GHG Footprinting” to learn more on GHG emissions, an introduction to climate change and measure your carbon footprint using the GHG Protocol Calculator.
Level 1: You currently account for direct emissions (Scope 1) and indirect emissions from purchased heat, steam, and electricity (Scope 2). You have a good understanding of what your operational footprint looks like. In order to move further, it is important to measure your indirect emissions across your value chain (Scope 3). We recommend you take Module 1 “An introduction to Climate Change and GHG Footprinting” to go over Scope 3, the categories included, and reporting.
Level 2: You currently account for direct emissions (Scope 1) and indirect emissions from purchased heat, steam, and electricity (Scope 2) and have mapped your Scope 3 emissions. Your next step is to account your emissions across your value chain. We recommend you take Module 5: “Disclosure” and Module 10 “Suppliers Engaging Suppliers” to further continue your plan.
Level 3: You currently account for direct emissions (Scope 1) and indirect emissions from purchased heat, steam, and electricity (Scope 2) and your Scope 3 emissions. Your next step is to start assuring your carbon footprint. This is a critical step towards disclosure and transparency. We recommend you take Module 5: “Disclosure” and Module 10 “Suppliers Engaging Suppliers” to further continue your plan.
Level 4: You currently account for direct emissions (Scope 1) and indirect emissions from purchased heat, steam, and electricity (Scope 2) and have mapped your Scope 3 emissions. You assure your operational emissions and your next step is to assure your emissions across your value chain. We recommend you take Module 5: “Disclosure” and Module 10 “Suppliers Engaging Suppliers” to further continue your plan.
Level 5: You are currently at the highest level on carbon accounting. If you currently perform “limited assurance” there can be a need to develop “reasonable assurance” as several regulations such as SEC will start requiring over the next 5 years.
Level 0: You currently do not have a renewable electricity target and you have not started your journey towards heat energy decarbonization. You might have a percentage of renewables in your portfolio. We recommend Module 9 “Renewables in your supply chain.
Level 1: You currently have a renewable electricity target but you have not started your journey towards heat energy decarbonization. You might have a percentage of renewables in your portfolio and you are advancing on renewables. We recommend Module 9 “Renewables in your supply chain”
Level 0: You are currently not reporting in any platform your progress on climate targets. Carbon reporting is becoming increasingly important for organizations today. We recommend “Module 5: Disclosure”
Level 1: You are currently reporting your Scope 1 and 2 emissions (operational emissions) on a given platform (ESG Report, CDP, corporate webpage or others). Carbon reporting is becoming increasingly important for organizations today. We recommend Module 5: “Disclosure” and prepare to disclose Scope 3 emissions as well.
Level 2: You are currently reporting your Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions (operational emissions) on a given platform (ESG Report, CDP, corporate webpage or others). Carbon reporting is becoming increasingly important for organizations today. You might not be disclosing on CDP.
Level 3: You are currently reporting your Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions (operational emissions) on a given platform (ESG Report, CDP, corporate webpage or others). Carbon reporting is becoming increasingly important for organizations today. You are currently disclosing on CDP but you are not engaging with suppliers to report as well. We recommend Module 10: “Suppliers engaging suppliers” to continue the journey towards collective action
Level 5: You are currently reporting your Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions (operational emissions) on a given platform (ESG Report, CDP, corporate webpage or others). Carbon reporting is becoming increasingly important for organizations today. You are currently disclosing on CDP and you are engaging with suppliers to report as well.
Level 0: You currently don’t have a climate target set. To continue your climate journey we recommend Module 2: “Setting Climate Targets” and proceeding to check the Science-Based Target initiative process.
Level 1: You have a climate target set, but your target has not been validated by an external climate expert such as the Science Based Target Initiative. To continue your climate journey we recommend you validate your target with SBT. For more information check “Additional Resources”.
Level 3: Congratulations! You have a target set and you have been validated by the Science-Based Target Initiative. You have yet to report your YOY results (check Module 5: “Disclosure”) and design a decarbonization strategy to achieve your goal. For more information we recommend Module 3” “Decarbonization Strategy Development” and the different segment modules (Modules 6, 7, 11, and 12).
Level 4: Congratulations! You have a target set and you have been validated by the Science-Based Target Initiative. You report your YOY results but you have yet to design a decarbonization strategy to achieve your goal. For more information we recommend Module 3” “Decarbonization Strategy Development” and the different segment modules (Modules 6, 7, 11, and 12).
Level 5: Congratulations! You have a target set and you have been validated by the Science-Based Target Initiative. You report your YOY results and you have designed a decarbonization strategy to achieve your goal. For specific information regarding a specific topic refer to Modules 6, 7, 11, and 12. You can also proceed to download the Roadmap Tool for roadmap refinement.
Level 0: You have currently not identified the risks related to climate in your organization. We recommend to review different tools in “Additional Resources” to learn further about climate risks, TCFD, and other relevant topics to develop a climate-risk measurement framework.
Level 1: You have identified some risks but have yet to implement TCFD and embed in your organization. We recommend to review different tools in “Additional Resources” to learn further about climate risks, TCFD, and other relevant documents related.
Level 3: You have developed a TCFD exercise but you are still pending embedding climate-related risk into the organization. We recommend to review different tools in “Additional Resources” to learn further about climate risks, TCFD, and other relevant documents related.
Level 5: Congratulations! You have fully embedded climate-related risks into your business strategy. We invite you to share best practices throughout the different forums and experience in the process.
Level 0: You haven’t set a net zero ambition or target nor you plan on setting one within the next 2 years. If you have already set a near-term target, we recommend going through net-zero material on “Additional Resources” to further build upon your current targets.
